Constant Rewards

Looking Back—Absolutely Worth It!

For years our side yard was a play space where the kids constructed makeshift habitats among the lilacs and fleeting ecosystems in the sandbox. Now, on this same ground, stands an enduring, super energy efficient net-zero home.

We imagined the project would take 15 months to complete. With life circumstances issuing a nearly 3 month construction slowdown, construction spanned 18 months from November 2014 through April 2016. Looking back, we navigated well through the building process, enjoying the mostly steady progress and managing the occasional difficulties and frustrations.

Constant Rewards

It is a phenomenal process to watch a carefully articulated plan transform into a high performing net-zero house that provides so many functional and valuable benefits.

Extremely Comfortable

The comfort level inside our home is remarkable. We enjoy consistent ambient indoor temperatures all year—warm and draft free in the bitter cold months, and cool and comfortable in the hot, humid months—all at a nominal financial cost.

Healthy Air Quality

The home’s HRV system provides continuous healthy, balanced, fresh air.

Light Infused

The passive solar design offers an abundance of beautiful natural light and a welcome connection to the outdoors.

Peacefully Quiet

The highly insulated envelope and super-performance windows and doors create a peacefully quiet living environment.

Easy Maintenance

Conscientious design and durable building products create a home that will be relatively easy to maintain for many future generations.

Better for the Planet

It is extremely satisfying to invest in the initial short term cost of harnessing and preserving the sun’s free energy to create long term effect, treading more lightly on our fragile planet.
